Week three!
What an informative week we've had in EDIT 4300, and other classes. It seems that there is always going to be more to learn. this doesn't come to me as a surprise n the technology field at all. However, it does feel like the technology is growing exponentially. Since technology is changing so fast, as a student in the field so closely aligned and almost dependent on technology, the resources we read and learn from must be very up to date. I realized that through the readings I found myself finding things that I thought sounded or just looked "old". This is funny because it also makes me reflect on another aspect of engagement to think about as I study instructional design.
With this race to keep up with technology, there is always a newer faster more convenient way to do anything. This week we learned about web 2.0 and QR codes. The idea of web 2.0 is that websites are not just information pools where you read and move on. Web pages are now interactive and in one way or another connected to another page or site. The creation of things like QR seems natural because it helps users become more connected and makes things more accessible. QR codes are not new, but they were ahead of their time I believe which might explain their limited adoption. The idea of them has evolved however and now we have things resembling QR codes like "snap codes" or "messenger codes" which share your social media contact information.
The web 2.0 technology I am exploring also works under the same principle of the QR code. The Plickers company has found a way to use QR codes to get instant feedback from a classroom. The students are given a card with something Resembling a QR code. on every side of the QR square, there are the options to answer A, B, C, D. When asked to answer or poll the hold up the card with the answer (A B C or D) up and the teacher can scan the room and gather their data. Its pretty exciting stuff and I am eager to become more familiar with the technology.
